Description:
It's an easy tour suitable for every reasonable fit walker. Karlsruher Grat is probably the most "dangerous" bit. You should not be too afraid of heights. But there's always a way to walk around the (not very) tricky parts.
You get great views on your way down the Westweg over the Schwarzwald and you can spot the Vogesen at the horizon. I really liked the Senkenbachwasserfälle (maybe because you can mock around with the dam there ;-).
It is advisable to distribute the km over the days in another way then we did it. Otherwise you have two long days that finish you off and no mood for hiking on the third day.

How to get there:
A5 / exit Achern / drive through Achern on the L87 until Ottenhöfen

Tour:
Ottenhöfen - Karlsruher Grat - Ruhestein - from there follow the E1 (Westweg) south over Schliffkopf, Zuflucht, Alexanderschanze to a little village called Kniebis. From there over the Vordere Buchschollen and Senkenbachwasserfälle to Baiersbronn. From there head east to the Mittelweg and then north on it through Besenfeld to Neuhaushütte. Down to the Kaltenbachsee and back on the Mittelweg until Redoute where you make your descent down to Forbach over St. Anton. In Forbach you can take the train back to Ottenhöfen (over Raststatt, Achern).

If you want to enlarge the tour don't go down to Forbach, but follow the Mittelweg further north to Prinzenhütte (side trip to Holohsee) and then to Forbach back on the E1 (Westweg) - Schwarzenbachtalsperre - Badener Höhe - Sand - Hundseck - Mummelsee down to Ottenhöfen.

Distances:
Day 1: Ottenhöfen to Buchschollenhütte (north of Kniebis): 26km
Day 2: Buchschollenhütte to hut at the Kaltenbachsee: 32 km
Day 3: Hut at the Kaltenbachsee down to Forbach: 10 km (steep and tiring)
